The United States has provided assistance to help Belarus become a non-nuclear-weapons state and to encourage demilitarization. The Soviet Union left on Belarusian territory SS-25 road-mobile ICBM missiles and launchers and associated nuclear support infrastructure. There were 81 SS-25's in Belarus; approximately 36 remain. Over $70 million in CTR assistance has been committed to Belarus.
